Professor wants Pride Parade banned
Shinder Purewal tweeted that the parade is "vulgar"
A Kwantlen University professor tweeted Thursday that Vancouver’s Pride Parade “should be banned.”
Shinder Purewal, who was also a third-place Liberal Party candidate in Surrey during the recent federal election and was a citizenship judge, sent out this offensive tweet on Thursday morning:
“Vancouver’s so-called ‘Pride Parade’ should be banned. It is vulgar…to say the least!”
Purewal later explained to the CBC that he would not want his children to see half-naked people walking down the street.
“A lot of people in our society wouldn’t want to see that display downtown.” And he added, “it’s not homophobic… It’s simply if they want to have a pride parade it should be a cultured phenomenon. It should not be sexuality on display.”
Vancouver Pride organizer Kevin Coolen said Purewal has the right to his point of view, but he added that he thinks it couldlead to more homophobia.
Kwantlen University sent out a tweet stating that Purewal’s point of view does not represent the school’s.
A flood of other Tweeters responded to his statement, mainly with criticism.

Good for him.
I agree with the Professor, The Vancouver Pride group has missed the point they will never be nothing buy freaks when they have people running around naked and simulating sex acts, I have been to one and was shocked – young children were present when grown men we running around exposing themselves.
billed as a “family event” it is hardly anything like that….
The same people would be arrrested for exposing themselves to children and minors, why is it condoned for the Pride Parade? clean it up and earn some respect.
The gay pride parade was never billed (as you say) as a “family event”. The parade was organized by and for the LGBT community (for a moron like yourself, that means Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and transgendered). The parade was never meant for bored families looking for something free to do on a sunday. Take your kids to the park if you dont like it!
No Jason. You don’t seem to understand. The parade is held in a public venue. Whether or not it’s billed as a family function or not, it’s there for everyone to see. I fully agree with ‘Proud Canadian’. If they want to hold a sexually explicit parade, it should be done in a private venue, where it would be out of sight to the public and attendants must pass through a gate; thereby acknowledging that they’re going to see ‘adult’ activities. I’m aboard with Mr. Purewal on this one.
