Controversial Carleton motion on cystic fibrosis fundraiser
Alleges genetic disease only affects "white people, and primarily men"

Motion to Drop Shinerama Fundraising Campaign from Orientation Week
Presentation Summary
Whereas Orientation week strives to be [as] inclusive as possible;
Whereas all orientees and volunteers should feel like their fundraising efforts will serve the their diverse communities;
And Whereas Cystic fibrosis has been recently revealed to only affect white people, and primarily men

Be it resolved that: CUSA discontinue its support of this campaign
Be it Further Resolved that the CUSA representatives on the incoming Orientation Supervisory Board work to select a new broad reaching charity for orientation week.

I’m stunned. I don’t know what to say. I encounter these PC radicals almost daily at the University of Victoria, but never, never would they get away with this here. My school has its problems, but today I’m proud to say this despicable, bigotted nonsense would never, ever fly at UVic….. (fingers crossed).

I attend Carleton and can vouch that students at Carleton should not be held to held to any high standard … but this would have been down right laughable if it were not so stupid. At the moment, I haven’t heard anything about this from Carleton other than a e-mail going out saying that the Shinerama program has been cancelled, and langauge used in the motion was suspect.
